Welcome to the 2026–2027 academic year at Jîna Academy
This year marks an important milestone in the Academy's development. Following the successful launch of our first Certificate Program in Humanities, we are entering a new phase of growth by expanding our educational offerings, strengthening international collaborations, and introducing a more flexible academic structure designed to meet the realities of our students.
Our first academic year demonstrated both the possibilities and the challenges of building an independent educational institution committed to critical thought and public scholarship. Students participated from across Iran, Kurdistan, and the diaspora while navigating war, political repression, censorship, internet shutdowns, economic hardship, displacement, and the uncertainty that increasingly shapes everyday life. Rather than viewing these realities as interruptions to education, we understand them as the conditions within which education must be reimagined. The changes introduced this year are rooted in that experience.
Beginning in 2026–2027, every Jîna Academy seminar may be taken independently while also contributing toward our Certificate Program in Humanities. This new model offers greater flexibility without compromising academic rigor. Students may choose to participate in a single seminar, gradually build toward the certificate over multiple years, or simply become part of the Academy's broader intellectual community.
Alongside our seminars, the Academy will continue to organize conferences, public lectures, workshops, collaborative educational initiatives, and international exchanges that connect critical scholarship with social movements, artistic practice, and community knowledge.
We warmly welcome both returning and new students to another year of collective learning.

Women, Gender Liberation, and Intersectional Struggles

Drawing on feminist, queer, and decolonial scholarship, this seminar explores gendered forms of violence and resistance while examining the Kurdish Women's Movement and the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising as transformative political projects.
Environmental Justice, Land, and Climate Struggles

This seminar examines ecological crises through political ecology, environmental justice, Indigenous knowledge, ecofeminism, and community struggles against extractivism across Kurdistan, Iran, and the wider world. Additional workshops, collaborative educational initiatives, and public lectures will be announced during the semester.
Citizenship and the State: Identity, Rights, and Borders

This seminar explores how communities respond to catastrophe by imagining and building democratic alternatives through autonomy, mutual aid, feminist organizing, solidarity, and collective life.
